Executive Designer Summit with Christian Azar
Monday, 03 December 2007
The 29th of November, Design Communication hosted an event with about 70 people at the Headquarters in Göteborg, Sweden. The guests arrived from all around Sweden and some traveled from abroad for this evening.

The reason of the event was the guest speaker -Christian Azar lecturing about the environment.

Christian Azar is a one of the most well known Professor within environmental issues. His research focuses on climate change, mitigation strategies, including energy systems modelling, technology assessment, and economic and policy analysis. He is on the editorial board of several international scientific journals, e.g., Climatic Change and Ecological Economics, and was a lead author on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, rewarding him as a Nobel Peace Prize winner (shared 2007).

Volvo Cars Design Director– Steve Mattin, Atlas Copco’s Industrial Design Manager – Alex Liebert and Nokia’s Design Manager – Joakim Karske were some of the guests, amongst Magnus Oliviera- Andersson Chief of Design– BT-Products, Geert Schietse – Electrolux, Ivar Frischer and Matias Cindric – SAAB, Bengt Järrehult – SCA and Anna Blomdahl from Swedish Design Awards.

For Design Communication this has been an introduction for what really can be done and to take care of the important message Christian Azar left behind after the event. There’s a lot that can be done, it is just a question of doing it. Design Communication has been working with environmental questions and processes for a long time, being ISO 14000-certafied (environmental standard) since 1998.

But there’s still a lot more that really can be done. An environmental group has now been created with the main purpose to formulate Design Communications environmental plan, and then make sure that we live up to it. The environmental group have representatives from all the companies.
